Voice-Based Emotion Analysis: Key Insights from Printemps des Études 2026

How can the voice reveal emotions experienced when using a product?

At Printemps des Études 2026, ACTALIA Sensoriel presented its new approach to voice-based emotion analysis during a conference dedicated to the emotional dynamics of the product experience.

The conference attracted a full audience and sparked numerous questions, both during the presentation and at our stand.

We take a closer look at three questions that generated particular interest around this innovative approach.

A new approach to better understanding consumers' emotional experiences

Beyond questionnaire responses, consumers' voices can provide additional information about the emotions they experience while using a product.

Our approach combines two complementary sources of information:

  • What consumers say, through their words and spontaneous comments.

  • What their voices express, particularly through intonation, rhythm and intensity.

By combining these two sources of information, it becomes possible to study emotional variations throughout the product experience and relate them to the perceptions expressed by consumers.

Three questions about our voice-based emotion analysis approach

1. Does your solution work in languages other than French?

Yes. The emotion analysis model used has been trained on datasets covering different languages.

The approach is therefore not limited to analysing French-speaking consumers.

2. How do you account for each consumer's emotional state and natural intonation?

Every consumer has their own voice, intonation and way of speaking.

To account for these individual differences, we perform a voice calibration at the beginning of each test. This step establishes reference values for each participant's vocal signal.

The analysis of emotional variations then uses these baseline values to study changes in the vocal signal associated with the product experience.

3. Can your solution be used in stores or public spaces?

Yes, under certain conditions.

Our approach can be used in different environments, including stores and public spaces, provided that background noise and acoustic disturbances are not excessive.

Obtaining a clear vocal signal remains essential for reliable analysis.

Let's continue the conversation about consumer experience

We would like to warmly thank Christelle Guéré and Dorothée Godet from the Clarins Group for their trust, as well as everyone who attended our conference and took the time to meet our team at Printemps des Études.

These discussions highlighted the growing interest in new approaches to better understanding consumer emotions and perceptions.
