ACTALIA Sensoriel Introduces Visitors to Sensory Analysis at the Science Festival in Bourg-en-Bresse

How do our senses influence the way we perceive products?

As part of the Fête de la Science (French Science Festival), ACTALIA Sensoriel opened the doors of its laboratory in Bourg-en-Bresse and took part in the Science and Industry Village, held at Technopôle Alimentec.

Dedicated to discovery, knowledge sharing and scientific curiosity, this event gave visitors of all ages the opportunity to explore the world of sensory analysis through interactive activities and discussions with our team.

Three highlights to discover our work and expertise

For this edition, Maud Nouvelot and Jean-Christophe Perrin, from our Bourg-en-Bresse team, took part in several activities organised as part of the Science and Industry Village.

Behind-the-scenes tours of our laboratory

Visitors had the opportunity to step inside our Bourg-en-Bresse facilities and discover the spaces where we conduct our sensory studies and consumer tests.

These tours provided an opportunity to introduce our activities, explain how our studies are carried out and offer insights into a scientific field that remains relatively unknown to the general public.

An aroma recognition game to put your sense of smell to the test

At our stand in the Science Village, visitors of all ages were invited to take part in an aroma recognition game, specially designed by our team.

The challenge? Use your sense of smell to identify different odours while having fun!

This interactive activity was designed to spark curiosity and demonstrate how our senses influence the way we perceive products. After all, recognising a smell is not always as easy as it seems!

The Experts' Café: discussing sensory innovation

Our team also participated in the Experts' Café, a networking and discussion session bringing together various local stakeholders.

It was an opportunity to introduce our professions, share our expertise and explain how sensory analysis contributes to innovation and food product development.

These discussions highlighted the role of sensory evaluation in better understanding consumer expectations and perceptions.

Making science accessible and strengthening local connections

Beyond introducing our work, our participation in the Fête de la Science reflects our commitment to sharing knowledge and making sensory analysis accessible to a wider audience.

These encounters also provided an opportunity to highlight that behind every product lie questions of perception, usage and preferences, which sensory and consumer studies can help answer.

A big thank you to the ALTEC Science Centre, the organisers of the Science and Industry Village, and everyone who came to discover our activities and meet our team.

We were delighted to share these moments of discovery and curiosity with you!
